something opened and now nothing fits

You went somewhere — inside yourself, beyond yourself, somewhere language doesn't quite reach — and you came back. But you didn't come back to the same place. You came back to the same apartment, the same job, the same people. And none of it fits the way it did before.

Maybe it was a ceremony. Maybe it was a meditation that went further than you expected. Maybe it was a moment that arrived without warning — in grief, in nature, in the middle of an ordinary day — and cracked something open that doesn't close again. How it happened matters less than what it left behind: a shift in how you see everything, and no way to un-see it.

Everything is exactly where you left it. The apartment, the job, the people — nothing moved. But something in the way you understand it all has shifted. The life is familiar. The way you see it isn't. And the version of understanding you had before — the one that made it all make sense — feels too small now. You can't fit back into it. Not because something is wrong with you. Because something in you outgrew it, and the rest of you hasn't caught up yet.

The things that used to feel meaningful — the career, the goals, the striving — still make sense on paper. They just don't land the same way inside you. You go through your day and do everything you're supposed to do, and something in you is quietly asking why in a way it never asked before.

Nothing went wrong. Something actually worked. Something opened. And the disorientation isn't breakdown — it's the space between an old way of making sense and a new one that hasn't formed yet.

The parts of you that existed before — the one who knew how to show up, how to function, how to be in the world — didn't disappear. And the part that opened, that saw something it can't unsee — that's real too. They just haven't met each other yet.

The opening wasn't the problem. It just got there first. The work is letting the rest of you catch up — finding what's yours in all of it, and building from there. From the inside out.
